Just as Eugene Volokh predicted, this morning the U.S. Supreme Court granted certiorari in United States v. Comstock. It really isn't a surprise at all given Roberts' unusual order in the case. The case (actually three cases) will test the constitutionality of a recent law which allows federal officials to order the indefinite confinement of individuals considered to be sexually dangerous. For more coverage, check out The Faculty Lounge, Sentencing Law & Policy, Volokh, Reuters, The Christian Science Monitor, The Associated Press, and Fox News. We have previously blogged about the Comstock decision here, here, here, and here. Baby permitting, I should have some more comments about the case this week.
