CrimProf Blog has an update about the female teacher from Nebraska that fled to Mexico with her 13-year-old student. The teacher has been arrested and turned over to the FBI.

Regarding the issue of teachers, I'm a bit perplexed by the Floridians' desire to set up a teacher-exclusive registry. If it's conviction-based, it's redundant. If it's accusation-based, it's a due process problem. And Florida can't keep its current registries accurate and up-to-date!
Regarding the Texas ordinances, it would be far more interesting if reporters asked what impact the laws have had on rates of recidivism and patterns of victimization.
