Starting today, Niki Delson will be doing a guest blogging stint here at Sex Crimes.
Niki Delson is a licensed clinical social worker specializing in interpersonal family violence. After ten years working with children whose parent's rights were terminated because of abuse and neglect, at a time when sexual abuse was first gaining recognition as a national shame, Ms. Delson began talking with children, their abusers, and non-offending partners. A quarter of a century later, her expertise in family violence is widely recognized. Her recently authored work on Family Violence Response Team Building provides a framework for communities to tap their unique resources on behalf of children exposed to violence. Her pioneer work with sexual offenders Using Conscience as a Guide: Enhancing Sex Offender Treatment in the Moral Domain bridges the public's outrage and moral panic to issues of community safety, professional ethics, and treatment. Ms. Delson presents workshops around California for three child welfare training academies, and has presented at national and international conferences as well. She was a featured speaker at the 2004 Northern California foster parents conference talking about children’s sexual behavior. Ms. Delson is a member of the Association for the Treatment of Sexual Abusers (www.atsa.com) and past chair of the Education Committee for the California Coalition on Sexual Offending (www.ccoso.org). She has also trained social workers and probation officers. Most notably to many readers here, she authored an opposition to Jessica’s Law in California (http://ccoso.org/notojessicaslaw.php.)
Needless to say, Ms. Delson will bring a different perspective to the blog than my largely law-focused one. So, I'm looking forward to her contributions here.
